| OLN Pimps Out The Yacht Club When The New Series Rock The Boat |

on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 12:00 AM |
It’s going to be a bumpy ride. Meet John West and his misfit crew from San Diego’s Ultra Custom Boats – California’s hottest custom boat builders. West and his boats have graced the cover of more than 22 magazines and won Powerboat Magazine’s “Boat of the Year” award twice. They may test each other’s patience to the limits but the result is always the same: the biggest, baddest and most brilliant boats on water. Find out how they do it – without killing each other – when the new series Rock The Boat premieres March 3 at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT on OLN.
Throughout the series, follow West and his crew as they combine custom interiors, sound systems, chrome, aftermarket parts and posh paint jobs to craft some of the most awe-inspiring performance boats on the water. West’s internationally recognized boats include a six-litre, fuel injected Ultra 21 Stealth boat custom built for the reality show Fear Factor; and the made-to-order 27 Shadow masterpiece for the infamous Jesse James (host of Discovery Channel’s Monster Garage).
West’s marine-miracles are inspired by the lives of his fascinating clients and he begins each assignment by assessing their lifestyles and personalities. But the magic doesn’t happen with West alone. The colourful characters that work for Ultra Custom Boats include:
Leah West, John West’s wife and partner – Also referred to as B.O.B. (Big Ole Bitch), Leah West is one loud, wild free-spirited woman! She keeps the books and the boys on budget and isn’t afraid to speak her mind in the process – even if the boys lock her in the office from time to time!
Travis, apprentice to John West – This 20-year-old skate rat was initially brought in to clean the boats, but quickly won West over with his charm and has become his top apprentice.
Jason Ewing and Cabe Sipes, “The Sound Boys” – Egotistical award-winning audio installers (ranked among the top 10 in the world) who helped to open West’s one-of-a-kind custom sound shop.
Martin Cassillas, Artist – a hi-tech artist and gel coater.
Erica, John West’s Assistant – West’s very girly and very well-dressed executive assistant is commonly referred to as the shop “hottie.”
In the first episode titled “PBR Build - No Bull About It,” the crew is challenged to make a boat that will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Habitat For Humanity’s “Operation Home Delivery” – a long-term rebuilding plan to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The theme for the boat is the Professional Bull Riding Association (PBR) – but West’s team doesn’t know a lot about bull-riding. After struggling with the concept, West takes a few of his crew members bull riding where they meet world champion bull rider Chris Shivers and rising PBR star Luke Snyder. Fully inspired, West and his crew create the ultimate PBR boat – complete with custom cowhides, 1000 watt stereo and glowing bullhorns.
Other episodes include:
Rock The Boat – “Marine Build – Swift, Silent, Deadly”
Premiering Fri., March 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
In this episode, West and his crew build a boat to honour Sgt. James Wright. Wright is a marine who lost both of his hands and part of his leg to a rocket propelled grenade during an ambush on his regiment while stationed in Iraq. Wright, a martial arts specialist, is the first Marine with his type of injury to remain in active duty. Watch as West and his crew create a boat fit for a hero. Complete with wild graphics, voice-activated controls and first of its kind sound system, DVD players and video games – this is one seriously tricked out boat!
Rock The Boat – “NASCAR Build – One Track Mind”
Premiering Fri., March 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PTIn a tribute to the late NASCAR driver Adam Perry who was killed during a racing accident, West sets off the build a NASCAR-themed boat. The boat will be auctioned off to benefit the Junction Gang Children’s Charity – in Perry’s name. To raise the value of this already incredible boat, West takes it to a NASCAR event at the California Speedway and has it autographed by over 20 top NASCAR drivers, including Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Jimmy Johnson and Kyle Petty.
Rock The Boat – “ARC Audio Build –Things That Go Boom In The Night”
Premiering Fri., March 31 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
In this episode, the crew takes an order from sound legend Demitrious Karabinis: the owner of Arc Audio in Modesto, California. Karabinis is passionate about sound, trucks and off-road racing and now he has a new dream: to own the loudest boat in the world, custom-designed and painted to match his Ford F350 – currently featured in Car & Audio magazine. To make sure the team fills the order on time, Karabinis sends in a team of four of the world’s top-ranked audio installers, who must work around the clock to complete in five days what would normally be a 30-day audio installation. High anxiety and sleepless nights make for stressful times, as over 60 speakers and 25,000 watts are installed. An explosive lesson in the power of sound waves adds further doubt as the crew realizes just how dangerous and destructive sound can be.
