Early signs that CSI: Miami's international sales will follow in the footsteps of the original series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation which is now sold in more than 150 territories worldwide
Maria Sanchez, Managing Director, INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION DRAMA DISTRIBUTION, ALLIANCE ATLANTIS ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, announced today outstanding sales on the second instalment of the Company's successful CSI Franchise - CSI: Miami.
ALLIANCE ATLANTIS, who co-produces and distributes both series worldwide, except in the U.S. (which is handled by CBS) has already closed sales for CSI: Miami in several key territories, including France, Germany, the U.K., Australia, Latin America, and several Asian countries. Sales are anticipated to match those of the original series, which is sold in over 150 territories worldwide.
"The huge response reflected in these sales is quite remarkable in this current environment where internationally, sales for television programs have contracted considerably," said Ms. Sanchez. "This makes the success of the CSI Franchise internationally that much more incredible and is a real testament to the quality of the series and the creative talent involved."
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is winning over audiences worldwide, for example:
- U.K.: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation finished its second season as the most watched drama ever in the history of Five, peaking at 2.6 million viewers and ranking as the No. 2 U.S. drama on television in the U.K. ahead of The Sopranos, West Wing and Six Feet Under.
- Australia: CSI is the No. 3 U.S. drama on television in Australia. It averages 1.5 million viewers per episode ranking in the Top 3 programmes overall airing on Tuesday nights.
- Spain: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has captured huge audiences peaking in excess of four million viewers and a 28.0% share, the show regularly features in the Top 3 programmes overall.
- Germany: Germany had huge success with the launch of season two hitting an 8.5% market share in the target demographic (ages 14-49) for VOX in its Wednesday prime-time slot.
- Canada: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is the No. 2 drama on television in Canada posting over 1.9 million viewers per episode.
In May 2002, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation completed one of the best sophomore seasons in U.S. television history. Throughout the course of the season, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation garnered an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Drama Series", a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Television Series Drama", broke the prestigious 25 Million Viewer mark an unprecedented nine times and completed the season as the highest rated and most watched drama series on television.
Season 3 of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered on CBS (Thursday, September 26, 2002) and recorded the highest rated and most watched season premiere in the history of the time period on the network since the advent of people meters 15 years ago. This premiere episode set new highs in the history of the show posting nearly 30 million viewers.
CSI: Miami was introduced as part of a regular season episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation near the end of season two and gained an immediate response. That episode posted the 2nd highest ratings in the history of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, posting over 27 million total viewers. As a result of that success, the series spin-off CSI: Miami has been picked up for the 2002 Fall Season and premiered on CBS Monday, September 23 as the highest rated one hour drama debut to air on any network in the past eight years.
CSI: Miami is a fast-paced drama, inspired by the top-rated series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," about a team of forensic investigators who use both cutting-edge scientific methods and old-fashioned police work to solve crimes. CSI: Miami stars David Caruso (N.Y.P.D. Blue), Kim Delaney (N.Y.P.D. Blue), Emily Procter (West Wing), Rory Cochrane (Dazed & Confused), Adam Rodriguez (Roswell) and Khandi Alexander (News Radio).
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and CSI: Miami are produced by ALLIANCE ATLANTIS and CBS Productions, in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Films Inc. Mr. Bruckheimer (Pearl Harbour, Armageddon, Con Air) heads a team of award- winning Executive Producers including Carol Mendelsohn (Tour of Duty, Melrose Place), Ann Donahue (Murder One, Picket Fences), Jonathan Littman (Without a Trace, Amazing Race), Danny Cannon (I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Judge Dredd) and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation series creator Anthony Zuiker (The Hoodfellas' Project).
