| Food Network Celebrates 5th Anniversary with Record Audience Growth |
| Posted
on Wednesday, February 01, 2006 - 06:13 PM |
Food Network has much to celebrate on its fifth birthday as a specialty broadcast network with a record audience growth of 25% from Fall 2004 to Fall 2005 (Source: NMR. Mon-Sun 6am-6am. Adult 25-54 Average Minute Audience). Food Network strives to entertain audiences with exciting programming from Canada, the United States, and countries all over the world and with the remarkable increase in audience numbers it appears the network is doing just that.
“Food Network is entering its sixth year as a broadcast network and the outstanding growth in audience numbers this past fall is a reflection of the strength of the brand and its programming,” says Karen Gelbart, VP of Content, Food Network, HGTV and FINE LIVING. “We strive to deliver the best in entertaining programming that explores all aspects of food and are thrilled with the outstanding response from our audience.”
Much of last fall’s success is attributed to Food Network’s shift in brand positioning and programming from an instruction oriented lineup to more entertaining, story driven programming. The shift in focus, especially during primetime, was designed to attract new viewers while continuing to appeal to the network’s loyal audience. To communicate the more entertaining side of Food Network, the network unveiled a bold new look and logo and launched a new image campaign prompting viewers to try the new food. These initiatives resonated phenomenally well with record audiences tuning in to entertaining Canadian programming such as Restaurant Makeover, and I Do .. Let’s Eat, U.S. programming including Hell’s Kitchen and Iron Chef America, and U.K. sensations such as Jamie’s School Dinners.
Food Network brings viewers a strong lineup of programming this winter including hit U.S. programs Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels and Behind The Bash with Giada DeLaurentiis. In spring 2006 the network will premiere Jamie Oliver’s newest hit, Jamie’s Great Italian Escape and a number of brand new Canadian programs including Food Jammers and Just One Bite.
