YTV Original Production Captain Flamingo premieres

Who says a kid can't be a superhero...even one that dons a terrycloth cape, pink boots and a flamingo beak? Follow the animated adventures of Milo Powell, a little guy who discovers his superhero destiny in the new YTV Original Canadian series, Captain Flamingo. Premiering Tuesday, February 7 at 4:30 p.m. ET/PT in The Zone, this new series captures the escapades of an unlikely hero as he attempts to save the day for kids everywhere.

Milo doesn't have superpowers or a super-sized physique, but he does have the heart of a superhero, and the will to become one. Armed with a backpack full of powerful joke-store novelty items, Milo stands proudly in his pink boots. With all of kid-dom depending on him, Milo approaches every little kid problem with the utmost seriousness. Saving the day rarely turns out quite as planned, but things always work out in the end, with a little help from Milo's anonymous sidekick, best friend and not-so-secret admirer, Lizbeth. Just call out "Uh-oh, Flamingo!" and this little square-shaped boy will soon be there to save the day in the most unexpected way.

"Captain Flamingo is about being a kid in a grownup world - where kids' problems are just as important as adult ones," said Bonita Siegel, Director Original Productions, Corus Children's Television. "This satirical new series is a great fit for the YTV lineup; parents and kids will get a kick out of the parody on superhero references. It's a twisted nod to all superhero movies, TV shows and comic books, with an original take on a unique hero."

Created by Heroic Film Company and developed with YTV, Breakthrough Animation and Atomic Cartoons, this 26-episode series, commissioned by YTV, is a co-production of Breakthrough Animation (Atomic Betty), Heroic Film Company (Our Hero), Atomic Cartoons (Atomic Betty) and PASI Animation (Bob and Margaret).

"Who among us has not dressed up as a superhero at some point in our lives (well, maybe not a flamingo!). This concept, combined with great writing and an original design style that plays to the wacky, light-hearted antics of the characters and stories, promises to deliver a fresh entertaining viewing experience. Captain Flamingo may be pink but he'll definitely be memorable" said Kevin Gillis, Executive Producer/Producer for Captain Flamingo.

"Captain Flamingo is a hero for little kids everywhere," comments Karen Lee Hall, Executive Producer/Producer for Heroic, "and we look forward to entertaining YTV's audience, as well as kids all over the world, with Milo Powell's surprising and inventive antics."

Joining Milo on his quests are best pal Lizbeth, his over-achieving neighbour Tabitha, his book-worm buddy Sanjay, his cousin and nemesis Wendell and the over-protected only child Owen-Only, along with many other colourful characters.

Captain Flamingo features the voices of the wildly witty Tabitha St. Germain (Krypto the Superdog, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) as Captain Flamingo and Peter Keleghan (The Newsroom, The Red Green Show) as the booming and over-the-top announcer who puts Captain Flamingo's actions into perspective.

In the premiere episode, The Flamingo has Landed, a visit to his favourite comic book store inspires Milo to become Captain Flamingo. Milo's first mission: to help Max, the littlest of the little kids, who loses his sticky comic book on a big kid's butt.

Premiering in its regular timeslot on Tuesday, February 7 at 4:30 p.m., the Original Canadian series will repeat every Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
