| Witness 9043 km of International Adventure When Dakar Rally Returns to OLN, Jan. |

on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 - 12:00 AM |
It is the ultimate test of endurance and navigational ability. This year, OLN will broadcast Dakar Rally - the awesome 16-day international trek - from Sun., Jan. 29 to Thurs., Feb. 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Now in its 27th year, this incredible all-wheel off road competition - including motorcycles, cars and trucks - will take the contestants through Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali, and Guinea ending (on the banks of Lac Rose) in Dakar, Senegal.
Considered by drivers and enthusiasts as the most difficult of all off-road rallies, this year the race will kick off for the first time in Lisbon, Portugal, at one of the most prestigious and symbolic areas of the capital, between the Jerónimos Monastery and the Belém Cultural Centre. From Portugal to Senegal watch as 508 teams, including 240 motorcycles, 188 cars and 80 trucks (as well as 240 assistance vehicles) traverse lethal desert conditions in their quest to conquer the Dakar Rally.
Making the journey even more difficult, GPS functions are deliberately reduced, forcing drivers and co-drivers to navigate exclusively on information provided in their road book. Also, several measures, including fixing a speed limit (160 km per hour) for bikes have been adopted in order to improve safety conditions for competitors and local populations.
