Live From Times Square, CTV Presents MTV New Year's Eve Special, Dec. 31
Posted on Saturday, December 17, 2005 - 12:00 AM
CTV

It ain't your parents' New Year's Eve party. CTV announced today that some of 2005's most kicking musical acts will kick off 2006 with an MTV non-stop music extravaganza. Featuring performances by Kanye West and Shakira, among others, MTV's New Year of Music airs live from Times Square in New York City on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 10:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. in all markets (pre-empted in Atlantic Canada).** CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson will air at a special 10 p.m. ET time on New Year's Eve (check local listings).

"MTV's New Year of Music rocks," said Susanne Boyce, CTV's President of Programming and Chair of the Media Group. "CTV is ringing in the New Year like never before."

Hosted by a slate of MTV VJs - including Ottawa's own rising star Quddus Philippe - MTV's New Year of Music features some of today's hottest artists. Viewers will enjoy special guest appearances as well as amazing live performances by Kanye West, Shakira, Fall Out Boy, Young Jeezy, All-American Rejects, Common, Maroon 5's Adam Levine and Rev. Run from Run DMC.

Born in Toronto but raised in Ottawa, Quddus Philippe went from studying philosophy at the University of Ottawa (where he was a DJ at campus radio station CHUO 89.1 FM) to interviewing some of the world's biggest celebrities as a co-host of MTV's Total Request Live. Quddus (called "Q" by his friends) has been named one of the "50 Sexiest Men Ever" by Teen People and one of TV Guide's "Hottest New Stars." Quddus made his sitcom debut earlier this year on UPN's Half and Half and makes his feature film debut in Shanghai Hotel soon. Before hitting it big in New York, Quddus was a host on TVO's Vox.

Additional VJ hosts for MTV's New Year of Music include Damien Fahey, Vanessa Minnillo, La La Vazquez and Susie Castillo.

MTV has been hosting a New Year's Eve party in New York since 1981. The inaugural MTV New Year's Eve party was held at the Grand Ballroom of NYC's Hotel Diplomat. The yearly celebration has earned a reputation for being the biggest, baddest and hippest show for real music fans to watch. MTV's New Year of Music will continue the tradition by hitting on all the big places, events, and people that made the year 2005.

As part of the New Year's Eve celebration, MTV's cameras followed multi-platinum rapper/actor Ludacris as he provided early Christmas presents for some Mississippi high school students devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

**CTV Atlantic will air the BT New Year's Eve Special from 11:30 p.m. - 12:15 a.m. AT following the CTV National News with Lloyd Robertson at 11 p.m. (check local listings).
