A new genre of unscripted comedy/reality based on the life of comedian Howie Mandel to premiere in january
Posted on Tuesday, December 06, 2005 - 09:42 AM
Bravo!

Hidden Howie: The Private Life of a Public Nuisance is the first series to juxtapose hidden-camera reality with unscripted, improvisational comedy. The six-episode, half-hour hybrid series, based on the life of comedian Howie Mandel, shows Howie acting out hilarious scenes inspired by his real life and reveals how his daily interactions drive the creative process behind his hidden-camera segments. Hidden Howie: The Private Life of a Public Nuisance premieres in Canada on Bravo! January 7 and airs every Saturday at 11:30pm ET / 8:30pm PT.

For the past 15 years, Howie has spent his professional life touring the comedy club and television talk-show circuit, and creating comedic hidden-camera videos in his suburban LA neighbourhood. Many of these video segments end up on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, in his stand-up routine at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, on Live with Regis and Kelly, or entertaining people in the privacy of his own home. Hidden Howie: The Private Life of a Public Nuisance intermingles these hidden-camera pieces, which star unsuspecting people who have no idea they are victims of a practical joke, with an unscripted depiction of Howie's actual life. Described as Candid Camera meets Curb Your Enthusiasm, the series deals with the veracity of Howie's family life, displays Howie's everyday interactions, and pokes fun at Howie's own personal quirks, including his intense fear of germs.

Actors who play some of the characters in Howie's world include Julie Warner as his wife and Estelle Harris as Nana. Howie's real-life son, Alex Mandel, plays himself. Various guest stars including Jay Leno, Marlee Matlin, Jillian Barberie and John Mendoza also appear on the show.
