CHUM Television's Citytv is beginning the search for "Canada's Next Top Model", an exciting new Canadian reality series based on the enormously successful "America's Next Top Model". Recruitment for participants for "Canada's Next Top Model" begins today and ends Wednesday, December 21st, 2005. The show will premiere mid-May, 2006, on Citytv.
"Canada has been the source of so many of the world's modeling superstars, it's only natural that a search for the next top model would take place here," said Roma Khanna, Senior Vice President Content, CHUM Television. "Not only will Canada's Next Top Model be one of the most compelling talent search shows to connect with audiences across the country, it will make one young girl's dream come true by launching her career as the next Canadian model to grace the world's runways."
"'America's Next Top Model has been a big success for Citytv and we anticipate this streak will continue with Canada's Next Top Model," said Armando Nunez, President, CBS Paramount International Television. "We are proud to add Canada to the growing roster of international territories that have embraced the Top Model format."
"I am excited to see the Next Top Model franchise continue to grow with the launch of Canada's Next Top Model. Jay Manual is Canadian, so he's thrilled as well," commented Creator/Executive Producer/Judge Tyra Banks, "America's Next Top Model".
Working in association with CBS Paramount International Television, the distributors of "America's Next Top Model", "Canada's Next Top Model" will feature 10 young women who think they can make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of modeling. The eight-part series will provide dramatic twists and turns as participants compete under pressure, to master the skills that are essential in the profession.
Beginning November 21st, "Canada's Next Top Model" will conduct a nationwide search to find the 10 top contenders. The aspiring models will live together as they learn the ins-and-outs of the fashion world from leading industry experts. Each one-hour episode is built around an important aspect of the modeling profession. Participants will be asked to demonstrate both inner and outer beauty as they learn to master complicated catwalks, fashion photo shoots and deal with the glare of the media, all under 24-hour-a-day surveillance cameras that chronicle every move. One cast member will be eliminated each week, and the last model standing will win the coveted title of "Canada's Next Top Model".
Canadian Actor/Former Super Model Tricia Helfer (www.triciahelfer.com) will serve as host/producer of "Canada's Next Top Model". Tricia, who currently plays the sexy Number Six on the hit Space sci-fi series "Battlestar Galactica," burst onto the fashion scene in 1992, when, at the age of 18, she won the Ford Super Model of the World Contest. Immediately signed by the Ford Modeling Agency, she quickly rose to the top of the fashion world, appearing in major campaigns for Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Saks Fifth Avenue and Victoria's Secret. She has appeared on the catwalk for designers such as Versace, Oscar de la Renta, Claude Montana, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior and Givenchy and has graced the covers of numerous fashion magazines including Elle and Cosmopolitan. While her modeling career was still red-hot, Helfer became a correspondent on CHUM's "Ooh La La" and later segued into a full-time acting career where in addition to her role on "Battlestar" she has appeared in television shows such as "CSI Miami" and "Jeremiah". In 2006, she can be seen in the theatrical release Memore, starring alongside Dennis Hopper and Billy Zane, and in a guest appearance on CHUM's hit series "The Collector."
Tricia will lead a panel of celebrity judges, who will be announced in coming weeks. In addition, special guest judges who are big names in the Canadian and International fashion industry will appear to critique within their particular area of expertise.
Do you have what it takes to be "Canada's Next Top Model?" To enter, you must be female, between the ages of 18-27 and be prepared to spend five weeks away from your family and friends. Participants are invited to go to www.citytv.com to download the official application kit. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, December 21st, 2005.
