Highlights of the 2002-2003 season. i channel is the economic, cultural, public and social affairs issues channel that goes beyond the headlines. i channel provides insightful, thought provoking, entertaining and quality programming from around the world, increasing the diversity and viewing opportunities available to Canadian audiences from coast to coast. Issues are presented with the depth and context not found on any other channel. i channel challenges the way we think about the issues that are important to all of us. ;@ issue Each week i channel focuses on one major issue. Over the course of three days for two hours each evening, we produce an in-depth and often explosive report on such topics as nuclear weapons, the abuse of women, the Middle East and radical Islam. Using a mixture of documentary, interviews and commentary, we present these issues with a depth and context not found elsewhere. Crispo! Hosted by the always outspoken Dr. John Crispo, this weekly series focuses on issues related to public policy, economics and the Canadian business landscape. Crispo is joined in the studio with Canada’s leading decision makers. i on media with Ray Heard Each week this hour-long program addresses issues related to media, journalism, the information economy, new technologies and the World Wide Web in its broadest form. Illuminating, thought provoking and controversial, i on media deals with themes on the cutting edge of media in Canada and around the globe. Exclusively on i channel, i on media is hosted by Ray Heard, veteran broadcaster and journalist (former White House correspondent, editor of one of Canada’s leading newspapers and head of a television news operation). on the record on the record is a talk magazine show. Each week host Bill Cameron interviews newsmakers, pundits and wits to get to the story behind the headlines. Moving Pictures Each week, i channel’s Moving Pictures, showcases powerful, issues-related, award winning feature films such as “Kramer vs. Kramer”, starring Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, “Gandhi” starring Ben Kingsley and directed by Richard Attenborough, “…And Justice for All” starring Al Pacino, directed by Norman Jewison, “Gallipoli” starring Mel Gibson and “The Conversation” starring Gene Hackman, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. World View Each Sunday evening, i channel presents the best public and current affairs programming from around the world, titles include: Panorama, Correspondent and Horizon. History Included in this strand are a number of epic series that explore our place in history. From Civilization and Alistair Cooke’s America, to Patrick Watson’s passionate series The Struggle for Democracy. These programs examine the roots of our contemporary condition. Trial and Error This award winning series tells the stories of people serving long sentences in prison for crimes they say that they may not have committed. Without access to the outside world and facing a wall of social skepticism, the wrongly imprisoned often live in hopelessness. Trial and Error revisits the crimes and the circumstances surrounding the convictions; often uncovering new evidence that undermines the prosecution’s case and bringing hope to the innocent. Cold Feet An award winning drama series, Cold Feet looks at the lives of thirty-something couples looking for love or holding on to their relationships in their turbulent lives. The series deals with the hot topics of unwanted pregnancy, fidelity, impotence, and the ability to sustain a happy marriage. Man Alive This award winning provocative documentary series explores the dilemmas, the passions and values of the human journey in a celebration of the human spirit. From exclusive interviews with extraordinary people to stories of the moral strength and courage of ordinary men and women, Man Alive provides a fresh and intriguing adventure with each episode. Blood on the Carpet This series more aptly titled “blood on the boardroom floor”, takes viewers behind the battle lines of corporate wars and takeovers. Including Ben & Jerry’s vs. Haagen Dazs and Benetton vs. outraged citizens in the United States, these are stories no one will want to miss. Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends is far more than a fly-on-the-wall documentary series. The presenter is not content with merely observing the strange behaviour of his fellow man; he becomes a willing participant in their activities and displays an infectiously good-humoured enthusiasm. Louis’s understanding and non-confrontational reporting style brings out both the best and the worst in his subjects. Rainmakers Rainmakers tells the inspiring stories of youth leaders from around the world who overcome difficult personal situations to take control of their lives and help others. Champions of the Wild Catch a Tiger shark by the tail. Nurture a family of baby orangutans. Champions of the Wild combines the fascination of exotic natural history with compelling human-interest stories. From the pandas of China to the mountain gorillas of Africa, to the polar bears of the Artic, we witness a series of documentaries profiling Canadians working around the world to promote and protect endangered animals. A Scattering of Seeds A Scattering of Seeds is a series that explores the dreams, hopes and triumphs of Canada’s first immigrants. This inspiring series draws on a rich archive of history and celebrates the diversity and determination of the families who helped build Canada during its formative years. 360 degrees 360 degrees is a dynamic series that circles the globe. Each week this fascinating series brings a diverse collection of riveting political and social affairs issues to the television screen. Editors Hosted by Keith Morrison, The Editors is a weekly series that explores the shared and distinct values of Canada and the U.S., whose emphasis is on topics such as: global trade, information technology, arts and culture, and science and social trends. Media Almanac Media Almanac is a half-hour series that profiles outstanding journalists and presents their contributions points of views and first hand experience to the world of journalism. World Affairs World Affairs is a one-hour series that broadcasts the most provocative documentaries from around the world on political, social, cultural or economic issues that may affect our country or the entire planet. Science & Medicine Science and Medicine is a one-hour series that has such provocative programming as: The Cutting Edge, Frontiers of Medicine and Scientific American Frontiers. Hosted by Alan Alda, Scientific American Frontiers examines the scientific revolution focusing on a diverse array of projects, innovations, and achievements. Profiles Meet people who have lead extraordinary lives. Some like, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. have changed the world. Others including Caesar Chavez and terry Fox have led lives of courage and tenacity. Their lives will inspire you.
