NHL Network to Televise 18 NHL Pre-Season Match-Ups

NHL Network today announced it will broadcast 18 NHL pre-season games, all of which will be televised over 13 days leading up to the start of the 2005-06 regular season. The action gets underway tomorrow (Sept. 20) at 7 p.m. ET with the battle of New York featuring the Rangers at Nassau Coliseum to take o­n the Islanders. This marks the second year NHL Network will televise NHL pre-season games.


Highlights of the schedule include a battle between Northeast Division rivals Ottawa @ Buffalo on September 28, featuring new Senators forward Dany Heatley, and Pittsburgh @ Washington on September 30, as 2005 number one draft pick and Canadian teenage phenom Sidney Crosby takes on top 2004 draft choice Alexander Ovechkin (complete broadcast schedule below).

NHL Network's pre-season schedule also includes:
*four doubleheaders
*tripleheader on September 25
*four tilts pitting New York teams against each other
*four games each featuring the Detroit Red Wings, led by new head coach Mike Babcock, and the revamped Chicago Blackhawks with new dditions Jassen Cullimore, Adrian Aucoin, Martin Lapointe and Nikolai habibulin
*three games featuring the Columbus Blue Jackets and newly acquired
blueliner Adam Foote

During the course of the 2005-06 NHL regular season, all games that remain tied after a five-minute overtime period will proceed with a shootout. As a special preview for hockey fans, this year's pre-season games feature shootouts conducted at the end of each game, regardless of the score at the end of regulation time or overtime.

NHL Network's pre-season NHL broadcast schedule leads into a month-long digital freeview in October. The freeview is available to all digital cable and satellite subscribers, showcasing the network's around-the-clock hockey programming.

NHL Network's pre-season NHL broadcast schedule is as follows:
*Tuesday, Sept. 20 - NY Rangers @ NY Islanders at 7 p.m. ET
*Wednesday, Sept. 21 - Colorado @ Detroit at 7:30 p.m. ET
*Thursday, Sept. 22 - Detroit @ Columbus at 7 p.m. ET, directly followed by Chicago @ Minnesota
*Friday, Sept. 23 - Detroit @ Dallas at 8:30 p.m. ET
*Sunday, Sept. 25 - Boston @ NY Rangers at 5 p.m. ET, directly followed by Columbus @ Chicago, directly followed by Dallas @ Detroit
*Tuesday, Sept. 27 - NY Rangers @ New Jersey at 7:30 p.m. ET, directly followed by Dallas @ St. Louis
*Wednesday, Sept. 28 - Ottawa @ Buffalo at 7 p.m. ET
*Thursday, Sept. 29 - New Jersey @ Philadelphia at 7 p.m. ET, directly followed by NY Islanders @ NY Rangers
*Friday, Sept. 30 - Pittsburgh @ Washington at 7 p.m. ET, directly followed by Chicago @ Columbus
*Saturday, Oct. 1 - NY Rangers @ Boston at 7 p.m. ET
*Sunday, Oct. 2 - New Jersey @ NY Rangers at 5 p.m. ET, directly followed by Chicago @ St. Louis
