Toronto 1 to become SUN-TV
Posted on Friday, August 19, 2005 - 07:50 AM
SUN-TV (previously known as Toronto1

Quebecor Inc.'s struggling Toronto 1 television station is changing its name to SUN-TV, emphasizing the outlet's links to the Toronto Sun newspaper, which is also a key property in the Quebec media giant's empire.

Quebecor, which acquired Toronto 1 late last year, is also changing the content of the station this fall, with a new focus on entertainment and sports, and away from news.

Toronto 1 executives have said they want to forge more links with the Toronto Sun, cross promoting content between the two organizations. Quebecor's vast media properties in Quebec have become highly adept at exploiting these kinds of cross-media links.

Some are concerned as to how there can be cross promotion between the newspaper and the television station, when the station is moving away from news. But for struggling station like Toronto 1, something needs to be done to boost its ratings and financial position.

The name change is ecpected to occur August 29, and the new programs are going to begin in the fall.

Editor's Note: Channel Canada/falltvpreview.com has requested the schedule and fall information from them and they assure us that they provide us with SUN-TV's fall schedule by August 29th.
